Shelter Spotlight: Faithful Friends Animal Society

Faithful Friends Animal Society does more than just provide a safe place for animals. In addition to basic care, their compassionate staff and volunteers deliver warm beds, nutritious meals, training, enrichment, and cuddle time to each pet. Faithful Friends has a skilled veterinary team on staff that is able to help many animals in-house, decreasing outside expenses. In 2020, Faithful Friends provided long-term and lifetime care to 229 harder-to-adopt cats and dogs.

This past year, thousands of cats and dogs in Delaware were saved by Faithful Friends; pet owners were supported by outreach services such as our Free Pet Food and Supply Bank and Low-Cost Veterinary Clinic, and remain united with their trusted companions. Faithful Friends’ dedicated team of staff and volunteers continue to share their passion every day to make these programs and services possible.

Faithful Friends is committed to fighting for the welfare of animals throughout the state of Delaware so that all pets in the community receive the treatment and care they deserve.

Those experiencing homelessness in New Castle County have a safe place to go as a hotel turned homeless shelter, now known as the Hope Center, is officially open! Faithful Friends is honored to partner with the newly opened Hope Center to provide support to those moving in with their pets. The team provides basic medical care for cats and dogs, as well as pet supplies including toys, blankets, sweaters, and treats! The Faithful Friends RV has been moved to the Center so the team can easily provide medical care to the pet residents.

Faithful Friends provides support for community cats and their caretakers. Cats in the community are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, ear tipped, and vaccinated through the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. TNR is the most humane and effective approach for stray and feral cats. After recovery, the cats are returned to their home (their colony) outdoors. Faithful Friends gathers supporters together to build cat shelters to keep colony cats warm throughout the winter. This year, Faithful Friends was able to reach their fundraising goal and build over 250 cat houses throughout the state of Delaware.
